A weekend with friends, a week by the sea, a big trip to the other side of the world: getting away does you good. And your nipple prosthesis can absolutely come along, stress free.
The secret comes down to very little: a bit of planning and a small, well-organised kit. Here is everything you need to know.
Before you leave: take stock
A few days before departure, take five minutes to check what you have. How much adhesive is left in the bottle? Will the remover last the whole stay? Are your prostheses in good condition?
If a product is running low, it is best to order it a little ahead of time, so you can leave with a light heart.
Another good idea: apply a fresh prosthesis, on well-prepared skin, a day or two before you go. The medical adhesive holds for several days and resists water and sweat. That way you travel without giving it a second thought.
The little kit to pack
One dedicated toiletry bag, and everything is in one place. Here is what goes in it:
- a spare prosthesis, or two for a long stay, in a small rigid box to protect them;
- your bottle of medical adhesive, tightly closed;
- your bottle of remover, tightly closed too;
- a few cotton buds or a small clean brush for applying;
- a mild soap, to prepare your skin and clean the prostheses;
- a small soft towel, to pat dry without rubbing.
That is all. No need to pack the whole bathroom.
On the plane: keep everything in the cabin
Our advice: keep your kit in your hand luggage. If your checked suitcase takes a different route from you, you will still have the essentials with you.
The adhesive and the remover are liquids. In European airports, liquids in the cabin generally travel in containers of 100 ml maximum, gathered in a clear bag. The small 10 ml bottles supplied with our prostheses fit easily within these limits. Rules can vary from one airport or country to another: a quick look at your airline's website before you leave, and you are all set.
The prosthesis itself is made of medical silicone: it is not a liquid, it simply travels in its box.
At your destination: heat, sea and pool
In the sun, a few simple habits make all the difference:
- keep your bottles away from heat and direct light, never in full sun on your towel or in a closed car;
- after the sea or the pool, rinse the area with clean water and pat dry;
- to remove the prosthesis, always use the remover, without pulling;
- clean the prosthesis in warm soapy water and let it air dry before putting it away.
And do not forget your scar: in the sun, it likes shade, covering clothes and good sun protection. Your medical team can advise you according to your skin.
What if your routine changes?
On holiday, no two days are alike: jet lag, long swims, hikes, late evenings. Listen to your skin. If it feels tight or turns red, give it a day off, without adhesive. Your prosthesis will wait patiently in its box.
If irritation persists, talk to a doctor or a local pharmacist.
In short
A fresh prosthesis applied before you leave, a small kit in your hand luggage, bottles kept in the shade, and skin you listen to: everything you need to fully enjoy every moment. A question before you close your suitcase? Write to us, we are here for that. Have a wonderful trip!
